Buying a Motorhome by Type

Motorhomes are broken down into three types, known as “classes,” which are very different. Here is a brief breakdown of the various types of motorhomes, so you can select the right class for your needs.

Class A Motorhomes

As the largest and most complex type of motorhome, Class A motorhomes resemble a bus, because they’re built on a bus-style chassis, with a driving cab that’s integrated into the rest of the motorhome’s interior. Their large size and well-appointed interiors make Class A motorhomes the most expensive type.

Class B Motorhomes

The smallest and most compact type of motorhome, Class B motorhomes are basically large vans with sleeping space for two or three people at most. Small wet baths, kitchenettes, dinettes, and more limited comfort features are common in Class B motorhomes. However, the smaller size and less elaborate features tend to make Class B motorhomes the most affordable option of all.

Class C Motorhomes

Class C motorhomes are the in-between motorhome category, with a separated driving cab from the rest of the motorhome. These models can be recognized by the overhang above the driving cab that makes them resemble trucks; this alcove can be storage space or a sleeping berth, depending on the model.

There are bigger “Super C” diesel-powered motorhomes in this class which can have more elaborate features, more sleeping spaces, and more interior space in general, but they’re still distinguished by the separated driving cab and the truck-style chassis.
